THE LAST DITCH
Donald Trump just won the greatest jury verdict in history.
This should be a lesson for Starmer, but I fear it won’t. I get the impression that he’s very far left and therefore impervious to any thought that he is not morally perfect. I think he’s so convinced that his way is the right way that he might view future elections as a threat to his engineered paradise, free of “right wing thugs”. If I were Farage, I’d hire some ex SAS bodyguards…

I refuse to believe Labour would stoop to assassination. I don’t think the Dems did either. What both of them do however is use crazy vitriolic abuse of their opponents. No party represented in the legislatures on either side of the Pond is overall fascist, racist, sexist or “Islamophobic” (a stupid made up term that should be scrapped) for example.
Labour actually comes closest to fascism because of its authoritarian statism, its desire for detailed control of the use of all private capital by balls-aching levels of regulation and its pockets of antisemitism, but I would still accept that – as a whole – it’s a respectable democratic party albeit with economically-illiterate, misguided views.
Screaming “Nazi” at them would win no hearts and minds anyway, even if one or two might deserve it. So what’s the point? The only reason to talk politics to an opposing voter is to win him or her over and abuse never will.
Their kind of hysterical vitriol might lead (might actually have led in the US) insane “fans” to offer actual violence. I would love to see a return to civilised, honest debate, but only the Left can deliver that and I see no sign that it will. If anything the woke left is doubling down on its hysterical lies.

Tom is a retired international lawyer. He was a partner in a City of London law firm and spent almost twenty years abroad serving clients from all over the world.
Returning to London on retirement in 2011, he was dismayed to discover how much liberty had been lost in the UK while he was away.
He’s a classical liberal (libertarian, if you must) who, like his illustrious namesake, considers that
“…government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one.”
