THE LAST DITCH

American Thinker: When Government Turns Predator.

I particularly liked the George Washington quote in this article. It is a new one to me, but it sums up the truth denied by statists of right and left everywhere.

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master

If only Guardian readers could be persuaded of this one truth, Britain would be a better place.

Yes but you know, Tom, that the Guardianisti have a certain mindset. I read two yesterday who wondered when the rest o society would wake up to the need for the state to support all citizens. My jaw dropped.

    I rather liked this quote:
“The commonest insanity in modern Britain is the belief by one imperfect human that s/he has the right to impose his/her views on others by force.”

Tom is a retired international lawyer. He was a partner in a City of London law firm and spent almost twenty years abroad serving clients from all over the world.

Returning to London on retirement in 2011, he was dismayed to discover how much liberty had been lost in the UK while he was away.

He’s a classical liberal (libertarian, if you must) who, like his illustrious namesake, considers that

“…government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one.”
