   I splurged 65,000 air miles at the gate for an upgrade to first class for the long overnight leg from Frankfurt to Shanghai. So it may not be quite so “plane” as that. B^) Lufthansa need to reconsider their meet and greet policy though. What’s the point in meeting me on the tarmac with a limo and then dropping me a long walk (and a longer security queue) from the lounge?

   In future the businessman’s choice of carrier, particularly on short haul, is going to be all about the ground experience – mainly the check in and security. After the liquids shenanigans in 2006 I thought of forming a “Flying Club” for major corporates who would nominate senior staff as members and vouch for them with a substantial bond. This would essentially “profile” passengers without causing the Race Relations Act to be invoked. It would require a separate channel through security, or segregation from the general travelling public, and/or possibily dedicated flights on some routes like Edinburgh-London, but it should allow regular travellers to board planes with a minimum of fuss and bother. Its either that or NetJets, and I can’t afford them just yet….

   Well be very grateful you were not flying into the USA as their security restrictions have become so tight again. Cabin baggage is almmost non existent again. My daughter and her family had to check their laptop cases and my granddaughter could not carry her tiny backpack either.
   Everyone was running around carrying their laptops in their hands but not their batteries as they are not allowed. There were 6 security people at the gate patting people down and 15 in all for one flight. Of course the BA people going to London at the next gate were not affected at all. So how long before the airline industry is totally destroyed by the security restrictions. Everyone will be trying to avoid travelling by air unless absolutely essential unless this eases up quickly.
   This seems likely according to the latest announcements but it is to become based on your nationality now rather than everyone being treated the same. Shaking my head.
   I hope you enjoyed the first class “sleep”. 🙂
