The Convention on Modern Liberty: Lord Bingham: Why this debate on our rights and freedoms is so timely and important | Comment is free | guardian.co.uk.
The Guardian has the video of Lord Bingham's excellent speech at the Convention on Modern Liberty yesterday in London. I can't embed it here, so please hold your nose and head over to the Guardian site. It is worth it.

Lord Bingham states on the decline of our civil liberties that NuLabour in enacting the Human Right’s Act “….took the single most powerful step in the other direction…” towards Liberty.
This is what I mean by Intellectuals (the product of their Nannies). The Human Rights Act is a binding contract between you and State. You cannot deviate from it but they can. All Religions are equal so you have to have the Paedophile Cult enter your home; all sexual perversions are the same, so the homosensual comes into your home; all races are equal so thru Diversity a less able skin-toned person enters your home to tell you how to live your life.
You have less liberty and Lord Haw Haw tells you you have more more. You have the Nanny Utopia and the Libertarians just cry for their share of the nipple.

Tom is a retired international lawyer. He was a partner in a City of London law firm and spent almost twenty years abroad serving clients from all over the world.

Returning to London on retirement in 2011, he was dismayed to discover how much liberty had been lost in the UK while he was away.

He’s a classical liberal (libertarian, if you must) who, like his illustrious namesake, considers that

“…government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one.”
