THE LAST DITCH

It's not a good movie. It's not well-conceived or well made. I am perfectly aware that one could easily make a similar film about Christianity, given all the hatred and violence that particular religion has also inspired. However, I believe you have the perfect right to make that anti-Christian film if you wish. Many have.

Frankly, I am disappointed by all the people in the media and the blogosphere ready to denounce Fitna sight unseen. Its maker had the right to make it and you have the right to judge it for yourself. So here it is. Please feel free to explain in the comments why it is as unfair a portrayal of Islam and the Koran as we all must hope.

If you are a blogger and believe in freedom of expression, please consider posting it on your own site.

Tom, linked it from my site already. I no more believe in the Bible than the Koran, the film does paint starkly the passages (Surah?) used by extremist Mullahs to justify tangible actions – those portrayed (9/11 & Madrid). I too challenge anybody upset at this movie to take out of context passages in the Bible and show a direct link with terror attacks or visceral rhetoric directed at Muslims or their cultures. I am not defending any magical superstition of fantasy beliefs, but one that oppresses their woman, indoctrinates their children and asks their young people to strap bombs to themselves must be willing to debate that philosophy for the sake of the future of their own – not to mention their enemies.
The UK is implicit in stifling that debate, and therefore has tacitly sanctioned the actions of Islams extremest adherents.

Mmm… I’m not really sure. Why should one man’s cult that kills millions of people and rapes women of their freedom be relevant to me? Why should a Dutch man rejected by his culture of pseudo-speak and pseudo-thought and now being refused entry into the UK for Saudi money be any concern of mine?
I do find it perplexing that you should not consider this video anything more than mere racist propaganda, and quite rightly it should be banned from our Muslim country.

I have been following this story for the last week or so, after Cranmer flagged up the ‘Lord Ahmed 10,000 muslims’ story. I was profoundly disappointed that my country banned the maker on the grounds that this film may incite racial hatred. My view was ‘if the film is about Islamics using violence to futher their cause and by showing the film Islamics may respond with violence then it just proves that the film is right’. Up untill today I had not actually seen the film, my concern with this story was the suppression of Free Speech and that my Government had given into threats made by a Member of my Government. I have now watched the film and I found it very unpleasent. The images were disturbing and will stay with me a long time. The images were available because these acts had been perpetrated by Mulims in the name of Allah. However, as an adult I am not now going to start hunting down Muslims. I am totally aware that these Muslim extremeists are a tiny faction of the followers and I am sure that although these passages exist in the Koran most followers will choose to ignore them. This film was biased and shocking. It was the opinion of one man and he is allowed that opinion. To prevent him from entering my country is totally unacceptable. It has intimated that my government will cave into Muslim extremeists. That have spent hundreds of billions of pounds fighting ‘The war on terror’ and yet when terror is threatened they give in to a dangerous minority rather than fight them face to face. This is a deaply shaming day for Britain, for Democracy, for Freedom of Speech and for every man, woman and child of this country.

    Sarah,
The Koran is The Word Of Allah… You don’t ignore any of Allah’s Words…. you don’t debate Allah’s Words… You don’t critique Mohammed (pbuh)…. If you do you are the KKUUFFAARR!

Tom is a retired international lawyer. He was a partner in a City of London law firm and spent almost twenty years abroad serving clients from all over the world.

Returning to London on retirement in 2011, he was dismayed to discover how much liberty had been lost in the UK while he was away.

He’s a classical liberal (libertarian, if you must) who, like his illustrious namesake, considers that

“…government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one.”
