Motorist told flag could be racist (From This Is Wiltshire).
Am I the only one who agrees that a crime was committed in this case, not by the young driver, but by the police officer and not "racism", but treason.

I wonder what would have happened if Ben Smith had taken out his mobile telephone and said “I wish to make two calls – one to my lawyer, and one to the press”?

The policeman made a serious misjudgement but I don’t think it’s treason.
Lord Ahmed’s alleged threat to bring about a mass demonstration at the House of Lords to prevent Geert Wilders getting in, if the allegation is true, is much closer to treason.
(I must say here that I am very much in favour of peaceful demonstrations that do not incite or threaten violence.)
I am British; Welsh, not English, and I will be in Wiltshire, not far from Melksham, in mid-April.
I will be displaying the Cross of St. George.
I don’t think my English friends and acquaintances will mind that.I think they will welcome it, in fact.
If anyone else chooses to take offence, too bad.

John – they’d have confiscated the mobile, of course.
Can anyone tell me what the actual offence was?
Or is there now some legal catch-all that says you have to do what any Police Officer says, regardless of circumstances?

Tom is a retired international lawyer. He was a partner in a City of London law firm and spent almost twenty years abroad serving clients from all over the world.
Returning to London on retirement in 2011, he was dismayed to discover how much liberty had been lost in the UK while he was away.
He’s a classical liberal (libertarian, if you must) who, like his illustrious namesake, considers that
“…government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one.”
