   We might be down between 30-50% of our staff tomorrow because of canceled travel links.

   These posts which mock the British response to the weather show an uncaring attitude which is typical of libertarians, and the reason why libertarians will always be rejected by the British electorate.
   Do you not realise that if people go out, they could fall, and break bones? Do you not realise the pain that broken bones cause? Snow also renders roads treacherous. Cars can be involved in collisions and other accidents. And accidents have been known to result in death.
   We have had enough of serious and fatal accidents, and the time has come to consign these things to history. These things must never be allowed to happen again.
   Modern Britain is a caring society. Mock all you like.

   I found it quite amusing all these hospitals cancelling operations, or these schools and colleges cancelling lessons, all these buses being pulled and trains removed, even bin men up here got the day off. Then of course it clicked as I walked around Tesco’s as the blizzard took hold outside and my car vanished completely under a 5 mm of horrendous snow. They’re all public sector.
   I fully expected a PA announcement that “due to adverse weather conditions the dairy aisle will be suspended until further notice,” or “we have decided to pull all our lorries from the roads in case they had an accident, therefore we have nothing to sell you but yesterdays produce,” or even a news bulletin where the supermarket head honcho could advise customers “we have had to cancel all unneccesary shopping today and until further notice. Only people with babies, the disabled or the elderly will be served. If they can manage it in.”
   Of course the fundemental difference is the first lot have a nice secured budget to spend – our taxes, while the second lot depend on our loyalty and money without which they would cease to be.
   I can fully understand someone living in “the sticks” unable to navigate country lanes, but come on, London, Birmingham, Coventry… this is just simply ridiculous.
