THE LAST DITCH

Link: The Daily Mash – DARLING SENDS 25 MILLION BANK RECORDS TO NIGERIAN DOCTOR.

Anotherstatistcretin_thumbnailThe always-amusing Daily Mash finds the humour in what is currently outraging the naive across the British blogosphere. To me, the incompetence of the State is a "given." As most of my fellow-citizens seem inclined to surrender their (and my) independence to it, the incompetence of the British State is actually my only hope of one day living a free life in my own country. If you lived next door to a monster with unbridled power, wouldn’t you be glad if it was short-sighted, forgetful and stupid?

The only surprising thing about this story is that anyone is surprised. Go smell the stairs in a public housing block. Go look under the bed in an NHS hospital. That which belongs to the State, belongs to no-one. Hertz or Avis will tell you just how much people care about anything that doesn’t belong to them.

Thanks for sharing that Daily Mash article, it’s hilarious.
Hopefully you are right, hopefully government incompetence will bring down the ID card scheme. But I’m half expecting them, after two weeks of hang-dog expresions – to turn around and argue that this is exactly why we do need ID cards, to protect us from Gorvernment incompetence things going missing in the post.
    Don’t put it past them.

What was that you said James? Trying to build some link love? Cornering the conversation? Are you spamming Tom? Very funny, but a bit scary.

Why are you writing in American? “Go AND smell ..Go AND look”, surely.

Dearieme, the English language is now a great river with many interesting tributaries. Living outside England, I have enjoyed encountering other idioms in my own beloved language. While I certainly prefer “burgle” to “burglarize”, I prefer “go look” to “go and look”. You got a problem with that, buddy? B^)

Tom is a retired international lawyer. He was a partner in a City of London law firm and spent almost twenty years abroad serving clients from all over the world.

Returning to London on retirement in 2011, he was dismayed to discover how much liberty had been lost in the UK while he was away.

He’s a classical liberal (libertarian, if you must) who, like his illustrious namesake, considers that

“…government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one.”
