THE LAST DITCH

Link: PCSOs who ‘stood by’ as boy drowned named – Telegraph.

Let these names forever be associated with the word "cowardice." They "were only following orders." Let’s hope they are never given worse.

Witness statements submitted to the inquest into the death of the schoolboy Jordon Lyon describe how Andrew Furnival, 24, and Helene Weatherburn, 20, "just stood there" after an angler pointed to the spot where Jordon had gone under the surface.

I agree entirely, just more useless and pointless people in uniform.

A drop in your usually high standard of journalism Tom. The individuals are not to be castigated. Their character or lack of is their own and will remain with them. Chicken livered is chicken livered. What is telling, it what type of persons the Police are getting to patrol our streets. On the questionnaire “Why did you join the police service?” their answer is not “Protect and Serve Sir!” for that would get them booted out. It is “to give penalty tickets out to soft targets Mam!” They are to demoralise a nation not embolden it.

Tom is a retired international lawyer. He was a partner in a City of London law firm and spent almost twenty years abroad serving clients from all over the world.

Returning to London on retirement in 2011, he was dismayed to discover how much liberty had been lost in the UK while he was away.

He’s a classical liberal (libertarian, if you must) who, like his illustrious namesake, considers that

“…government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one.”
