THE LAST DITCH

Dscn0740How pathetic is it that I regard wi-fi on the beach as the mark of a civilised hotel? How sad is it that my family agree, as it means I am keener to join them there?

Very, sorry and all that. The marks of a civilised hotel are good food, an excellent wine list, unobtrusive service (especially of cocktails) and either no (or somewhere to corral any) squalling brats (especially your own.) 🙂
My MacBook Pro worked fine by the pool last month (owning up to his own pathos).

    That’s fantastic! Wi-fi is absolutely a must. I agree.

The last hotel I stayed in had computers with internet access in one of the foyers. Every time I walked past, I looked longingly at it, but couldn’t face Husband’s teasing if I’d weakened and blogged.

Tom is a retired international lawyer. He was a partner in a City of London law firm and spent almost twenty years abroad serving clients from all over the world.

Returning to London on retirement in 2011, he was dismayed to discover how much liberty had been lost in the UK while he was away.

He’s a classical liberal (libertarian, if you must) who, like his illustrious namesake, considers that

“…government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one.”
