THE LAST DITCH

Ken_jonesIf Gordon Brown believes a word he says about liberty, he will fire this man forthwith.

What in the name of all that’s holy is a public servant doing expressing political opinions anyway? Anyone fed from the public purse has a clear conflict of interest with taxpayers and should not even vote, let alone campaign for changes in the law.

Anyone fed from the public purse not allowed to vote, I go along with that, it would change society overnight.

I have raised this issue before. I dont know how you get around the issue of bias.
It beggars belief that this guy really said that.

Why do our police need to hold these suspects for longer than 28 days exactly? Am I right in thinking that no other democracy in the World finds the need to hold suspects for anything like as long as we do?
Can anyone show us a case where the suspects got away scot free or the case against them compromised because they could not be held longer than 28 days?
Are we to believe that our terrorists are so much more sophisticated than those operating abroad, or are we to suspect that the police are more useless than those in other countries?

Tom is a retired international lawyer. He was a partner in a City of London law firm and spent almost twenty years abroad serving clients from all over the world.

Returning to London on retirement in 2011, he was dismayed to discover how much liberty had been lost in the UK while he was away.

He’s a classical liberal (libertarian, if you must) who, like his illustrious namesake, considers that

“…government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one.”
