THE LAST DITCH
Living out of the UK, the 5th of November is meaningless. It is nice to be reminded however about links to history. I was a little envious of my brother taking his family to a Guy Fawkes Bonfire. A cultural event that my young kids will likely not experience. At this time of year in Australia, there are total fire bans, so I doubt if the concept would take off, even if there was interest.

Returning to London on retirement in 2011, he was dismayed to discover how much liberty had been lost in the UK while he was away.

“…government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one.”
