THE LAST DITCH

Alaa Abd el-Fattah should not be in Britain.

I knew that becoming a Christian again would have costs. I couldn’t just expect it to end as it began; with the wonderful feeling of a great weight lifted from my shoulders as I placed my faith in God’s plan.

I find my posts on X.com to be rather different, for example. I always tried to hold back from ad hominem attacks because they’re terrible advocacy. No-one was ever insulted or abused into changing his mind. Now I try to be even gentler.

When others observe, with more-or-less righteous anger, that it’s hard to hate the political classes in Britain enough, I try instead to hate the sin, but love the sinner. Some sinners seem determined, however, to make that as hard as possible.

Take Stephen Fry, for example. As teenagers, the Misses P. used to like to tease me that he was my gay doppelgänger. He and I are the same age, height, and build. We share some of the same car history. My daughters used to joke that we have the same tendency to pomposity when lecturing others on their behaviour.

He’s currently prominent (as he often is) among the leftist luvvies. He’s among (of course he is) those calling for the “return” to Britain of a man whose sins could scarcely be viler. Alaa Abd el-Fattah is a man who presents a real challenge, not only to a Christian but to any non-monster, trying to love him.

He’s a racist, an anti-semite, a man who considers the English (the very mugs who have saved him from gaol) to be “dogs and monkeys.” He called for Downing Street (current home of his chief cheerleader) to be burnt down and for all Britain’s police (now tasked with protecting him) to be killed as sub-humans.

Even the leftist media are suggesting (with their usual warped priorities) that the PM’s praise for this man is a “gift to the Right.” No it damned well isn’t. To sane people. life isn’t just a game of agitprop to be won or lost. A true gift would be for those inhabiting the corridors of power to do their bloody jobs just once.

The British Establishment, or Deep State if you prefer the modern parlance, once more prefers our nation’s enemies to its own people. Those who call us “dogs and monkeys”, declare themselves racists and call for our extermination get to be gifted our citizenship. They have their release from a well-earned gaol cell campaigned for at our expense. They are feted as heroes on their first arrival on our shores.

To add insult to all those injuries, we’re then expected to believe his implausible apology for dozens of hateful – and entirely consistent – calls for violence and watch him walk free. How can we help but compare that expectation with our rulers’ treatment of a woman who – angered by the murder of little children – expressed one intemperate opinion (hastily retracted and apologised-for) yet got to languish in gaol for two years?

Two tier justice in modern Britain is horribly real. Our country is run by ideologues who have contrived to make the systems of policing and criminal justice favour their own. Justice is now blind only to the crimes of Leftists and their favoured identity groups.

I do not call for violence. It’s wrong. Unlike Mr el-Fattah, I am not a violent man. I call rather for the restoration of the greatest achievement of our English civilisation – equality before the law.

I call for the systematic, efficient and neutral enforcement of our laws against all offenders. I want all rapists, murderers, paedophiles and child-abusers to be hunted down, prosecuted and imprisoned without fear or favour. I want it done regardless of their race, sex or sexual orientation – or their politics. Of course some bad guys will escape justice. Perfect justice is not possible. I’d like it to be the goal though, please.

I don’t call for this because I believe (although I do) that thousands of supporters of the Labour Party will end up in gaol. I would want the same for such people whatever party they supported. It’s not me but the Labour Party that has made clear – in the context of the rape gangs scandal and now this farrago – that its approach to justice is positively Soviet. They see their Party, its apparatchiks and glamorous propagandists as above, not merely the law, but morality and even truth. As a clear-sighted former member of Labour once wrote;

The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

The very people who so love “equality” that they will crush all else in pursuit of it are systematically denying it in the one field where it really matters: equality before the law.

I pray for their redemption and for God, in His mercy, to forgive them if they repent. By His holy name however, I hate their sins with all the power that’s in me. All I want here is justice. So should we all.

Tom is a retired international lawyer. He was a partner in a City of London law firm and spent almost twenty years abroad serving clients from all over the world.

Returning to London on retirement in 2011, he was dismayed to discover how much liberty had been lost in the UK while he was away.

He’s a classical liberal (libertarian, if you must) who, like his illustrious namesake, considers that

“…government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one.”
