THE LAST DITCH

Travel safely, Tom. I’ll bet Sperenza will be turning heads all through the trip.

I hope she gives as much pleasure to onlookers as she does to me. She’s a joy to drive. 6.5 hours flew by today (at least once I got off the congested English roads). She sang her way lustily through France and I felt like a very lucky man.
She’s safely ensconced in the proprietor’s garage at my hotel in Dijon. After freak hailstorms and driving rain in Burgundy, I am hoping for convertible weather further South tomorrow. I have packed very carefully so that I have the option to put the roof down if the weather obliges.

Tom is a retired international lawyer. He was a partner in a City of London law firm and spent almost twenty years abroad serving clients from all over the world.
Returning to London on retirement in 2011, he was dismayed to discover how much liberty had been lost in the UK while he was away.
He’s a classical liberal (libertarian, if you must) who, like his illustrious namesake, considers that
“…government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one.”
