THE LAST DITCH

Minister accuses former MI5 chief of 'abject nonsense' – Telegraph.

Hmm. Whom to believe on the subject of Britain drifting toward a police state? A former poly lecturer and lifelong leftist hack, whose job it is to deny it? Or an experienced specialist who worked in all three branches of the Security Service before rising to lead it?

I might criticise Dame Stella for raising her concerns far too late. But this third-rate numpty's condemnation is scarcely worth the resultant wear on one's eardrums.

“I have enormous respect for the work and experience of Dame Stella Rimington but I think on this she is totally and utterly wrong.”
Jesus wept tears of hate. FFS!!

Here is something that I’ve been pondering for months and discussed with a few people who do not automatically dismiss my suspicions:
I am certain that there is a plan to diminish the liberties of people in Britain.
I strongly suspect that it is linked to a similar plan for the rest of Europe.
But I don’t know who is in on it, how far knowledge of the plan extends.
I doubt if the police who raided that website host know anything about it.
Police who might arrest a photographer don’t know about it.
Most MPs and civil servants don’t know about it.
Most Ministers don’t know about it, and I’m prepared to believe that Tony McNulty is, by the standards of politicians, saying what he believes to be true.
Yet I am convinced that McNulty is wrong; I am convinced that the repeated diminutions of our liberties are not accidental and that there is a plan.
So, who is in on it?

All good points Kevyn – as long as I don’t hear someone tell me one more time that it’s all down to “incompetence” and “cock-up”. As you’ve alluded to, the destruction of our liberties appears to be quite systematic.

Tom is a retired international lawyer. He was a partner in a City of London law firm and spent almost twenty years abroad serving clients from all over the world.

Returning to London on retirement in 2011, he was dismayed to discover how much liberty had been lost in the UK while he was away.

He’s a classical liberal (libertarian, if you must) who, like his illustrious namesake, considers that

“…government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one.”
